What is Vaping?
Vaping is the heating of a liquid or solid to the point where it produces vapor but does not boil or combust. The substances that can be vaped include tobacco, marijuana (aka dry herb), THC concentrates (wax, shatter, honey), and e-liquids.
Each substance is placed in its respective vaporizer type where it is heated to temperatures that will create a vapor that can be inhaled by the user. Most vaporizers can only use one type of substance but there are multi-use vaporizers, like the Prohibited vaporizer, that can vape multiple substances.
Types of Vaporizers
Vaporizers come in a variety of categories that are based on the substance used:
Is Vaping Dangerous?
More long term study is needed to decisively say whether vaping is dangerous or not, so far there haven’t been many serious issues associated with vaping. There are occasional malfunctions associated with some devices but these are mostly harmless and usually involve the device not working properly.
There are more serious incidents involving e-cigarettes and vape mods exploding but these are usually due to misuse, such as using the wrong kind of battery.
Is Vaping Addictive?
The answer to that question depends more on the user than on the vaping process. Vaping does not make substances more or less addictive.
Many dry herb vaporizers like the Crafty, feature an auto-shutoff feature that preserves battery life but can also help curb excessive use. While not the primary function of that feature, it can prevent users from overindulging—as can other session vaporizers. Vape your session and continue with your life 😇.
Is Vaping Safer than Smoking?
There is more long term research that needs to be done on the consequences of vaping, however the dangers of cigarette smoking are well documented. The combustion created when lighting up a cigarette or a joint releases toxins and carcinogens that can cause long term health problems in users.
Those problems are not present in vaping since no combustion occurs, even so it would be over-eager to say that vaping is safer than smoking.
Vaping Health Risks
There have not been many health risks associated with vaping so far, but more research needs to be done. It was believed that the use of diacetyl in some e-liquids could cause popcorn lung. However, no instances of popcorn lung have been recorded in e-cigarette users so far.
Dry herb and concentrate vaping have not been shown to cause any significant health risks so far. The concerns are more related to whether marijuana is safe instead of whether vaping marijuana is safe.
Is Vaping Healthy?
It is more accurate to say that vaping is a more efficient method than smoking when it comes to taking advantage of the health benefits of marijuana. The CBD in marijuana can have many positive effects and using a vape pen like the Prism is one of the better ways to ingest CBD.
E-cigarettes can help smokers quit an unsafe and harmful habit. Former smokers can receive their nicotine hit in a way that does not involve the release of toxins via combustion.
Keep Your Vaporizer Clean
You can avoid certain potential health risks by keeping your vaporizer clean and sanitary. This will prevent the buildup of germs and keep it operating at its full potential. Follow the cleaning instructions of your vaporizer and clean it regularly.
Specifically, clean the chamber, use isopropyl alcohol to clean out the chamber and mouthpiece and wipe down the exterior as well. Depending on how often you use your vape—particularly with company—you should consider keeping a regimen so that you get in the habit of maintaining a hygienic vaporizer unit.
It is too early to offer a definitive answer on whether vaping is good or bad for you. What can be said is that the dangers of smoking are well known and that vaping does not share those dangers.
The benefits of marijuana use in certain medical situations is also well known and vaporizers are an efficient way to take advantage of those benefits. More long term research needs to be done but so far, it seems that vaping may not be as bad as some people think it is and certainly doesn’t carry with it the negative affects of smoking, such as CO2 inhalation.
